Jeff Young, MD, MBA, FACS, is the Global Outreach Doctors Medical Director/Surgical Operations. He will expand GoDoc services to include extensive surgical capabilities, recruiting surgeon teams and providing education in trauma to serve populations in crisis. He is Professor Emeritus of Surgery at the University of Virginia Medical School where he built the trauma center at UVA Health from 1994 to 2024. For 26 years Jeff was a member of the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma and the ACS Verification Review Committee, verifying 237 trauma centers. Jeff is an instructor for: ATLS; Advanced Trauma Operative Management; Advanced Surgical Skills for Exposure in Trauma; Surgical Skills Training. He completed the Hostile Environment Surgery Training course and is a medical officer for the U.S. National Disaster Medical System Trauma Critical Care Team deploying on several missions. Dr. Young deployed to Ukraine in 2025 to teach trauma surgery and will deploy with Mercy Ships to Sierra Leone as a general surgeon. He has published over 90 trauma surgery and critical care articles, authored two books, “Trauma Centers: A Quick Guide” and “Trauma Center Performance Improvement,” which collectively have been downloaded over 10,000 times. Jeff’s website has had over 1,000,000 reads, and his podcast has garnered over 94,000 all-time downloads. He has cared for over 30,000 injured patients in his career, and has served as an EMS Operational Medical Director for several Fire Departments/ EMS agencies. Dr. Young has extensive experience in traumatology, trauma surgery, elective and emergency general surgery, surgical critical care, trauma system management, and trauma center development.
